STATUS TERKINI AKTIVITI PENDEKATAN TERTUMPU (TARGETED APPROACH)

Current Status of the Targeted Approach Activities

As previously stated, MOH has intensified its detection, screening, testing and isolation activities as well as treatment, especially for high-risk populations or groups via a targeted approach. This is done in collaboration with various government agencies and non-governmental organisations.

Among the activities under the targeted approach to stop the spread of COVID-19 infection includes the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in high-risk localities, detection activities in madrasah or tahfiz schools (religious schools), and quarantine stations especially for Malaysians returning from overseas. To date, MOH was able to detect more COVID-19 positive cases through activities under the targeted approach.

As of 26 April 2020, 12 pm, a total of 21,466 individuals had undergone COVID-19 testing within the EMCO localities. To date, 638 individuals (2.97%) were found to be positive for COVID-19. Of these, 388 cases (61%) were non-Malaysians with the remaining 250 cases (39%) were Malaysians.

For intensified activities in madrasah or tahfiz schools, as of 25 April 2020, a total of 6,229 students, teachers and school staff have undergone COVID-19 testing. To date, 341 individuals were found to be positive for COVID-19 (5.47%).

At the quarantine stations for Malaysians returning from abroad, as of 24 April 2020, 5 pm, a total of 12,672 individuals have undergone COVID-19 testing. To date, 139 individuals were found to be positive for COVID-19 (1.1%). These demonstrate that the activities under the targeted approach taken by the Government so far have shown promising results. It is hoped that this will reduce the disease transmission among these high-risk groups. MOH expects more positive cases to be identified in the near future as activities under the targeted approach are still ongoing.

Health Advisory on COVID-19

MOH will continue to monitor the current COVID-19 situation and the public is advised to stay at home. Always maintain a high level of personal hygiene such as washing hands frequently with water and soap, and practise social distancing at least 1 metre away from others. The public is requested to play their part in managing the COVID-19 situation in Malaysia.

Further information on COVID-19 in Malaysia is available through the National CPRC MOH telegram channel; https://t.me/cprckkm. The public will be continuously updated on the latest information.
